Trade-off: roughly 2-3x the cost of conventional glazing ($50-150/sqft), a payback period commonly quoted at 20-30 years, and a coating/control system that's proprietary and unrepairable outside a factory, a failed electrochromic pane is a full-unit replacement, not a field fix.
