Drying washing on a line, a rotary airer or an indoor rack instead of in a tumble dryer. The dryer is usually the larger of the two laundry loads, and this removes it outright rather than making it more efficient. Outdoors it costs a line and some posts; indoors it costs a folding rack and nothing else, which is what makes it available to a flat. Slower than a machine, and weather-dependent outdoors. Indoors in winter the water has to go somewhere, so it wants a ventilated room, or it trades an electricity bill for condensation on the coldest wall.
